The creators of Brave, a web browser dedicated to online privacy, have submitted a detailed document to the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC), providing "concrete proof that Google's ad system did broadcast personal data about Dr Ryan, which infringed the GDPR. In addition, Brave has uncovered what appears to be a GDPR workaround that circumvents Google's own publicly stated GDPR data safeguards" (Dr. Ryan being the person that complained to the DPC about suspected GDPR violations by Google). It's a bit complicated, but essentially Google is allowing advertisers to share data they gain on you with other advertisers - a big GDPR no-no.
Facebook has been responsible for an "exposed server (that) contained more than 419 million records over several databases on users across geographies, including 133 million records on U.S.-based Facebook users, 18 million records of users in the U.K., and another with more than 50 million records on users in Vietnam". TechCrunch was able to verify that some of the numbers are active and was able to match the phone number with active Facebook profiles. Facebook claim the data is old and was generated prior to changes last year that made obtaining such data impossible, but who changes their phone number that often? I've had the same one for almost 20 years. Thanks for nothing Zuck.
Porsche has entered the electric car game, revealing the production spec Taycan last night after months (maybe even years) of teasing. It's a 4-door sedan, similar in size to the Tesla Model S and can go about 400km with its 93kWh battery. As expected for a Porsche, it is very fast (0-200km/h in under 10 sec, 0-100km/h in 2.8 sec!) and very expensive ("a good deal more than a Tesla"). It's also the first car to use 800V battery system, allowing for super rapid charging at ~270kW (approx 100km of range every 3 min). The Taycan will go on sale in Australia at the end of 2020, late-2019 in the US & EU. CarAdvice has loads of articles about it.
Logitech has updated its popular MX Master mouse. The MX Master 3's biggest change is the ratcheting scroll wheel. It now uses an "electromagnetic system that replaces the mechanical scrolling wheel" that it calls "Magspeed". The top and side scroll wheels are machines out of stainless steel and are wider. It also uses USB-C for charging, not micro USB. Still has a 4,000 DPI sensor and can use Bluetooth or the Logitech Unifying receiver. There's also a matching MX Keys keyboard, but the switches aren't mechanical, so I don't care for it. The MX Master 3 comes out "later this month".
