Two new iPhones were announced this morning. The iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. iPhone 11 replaces the iPhone XR and has a better camera (main & tele), new & faster A13 SoC, higher price and that's pretty much it. iPhone Pro adds an extra camera (wide), better screen, longer battery and faster LTE modem. Both have new colours, improved IP68 ratings and a new "U1 ultra-wide-band chip for spatial awareness" that can find other U1 enabled devices relatively instantly. Apple say it's make using AirDrop with other U1 enable devices awesome, but surely they've got more planned for a whole new location chip than making AirDrop suck less. Pre-orders this Friday, goes on sale September 20th. Telcos should have plan info this Friday too.
Apple Watch series 5 is now a thing. Has an always on display which is handy, a compass, new S5 SoC, plus titanium and ceramic body options. The series 3 Watch got a massive price cut (A$319 is pretty good). Pre-orders and sales same as iPhone on Friday & Sept 20th. The non-Pro iPad got a refresh. Same SoC, but a bigger screen and a Smart Connector. Hopefully they give the iPad Pro its own event in a few weeks where it gains a souped up A13 SoC like the new iPhones. iOS 13 & watchOS 6 will go live on September 19th, iPadOS 13 & tvOS 13 on September 30th and macOS Catalina some time in October.
We knew about Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade already, but now we have more info. Arcade will launch on September 20th (including Australia) and for $7.99/m (1st month free), you'll get to choose from around 100 games to enjoy as often as you like on all your Apple devices until you stop paying. Apple TV+ kicks off on November 1st (yep, even in AU) and also costs $7.99/m. You get 1 year free if you "purchase an eligible new iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac or Apple TV". Some exclusive shows like For All Mankind and See are worth a watch IMHO. No updates on Apple News+, hopefully it's still coming "later in the year" like Apple mentioned earlier in the year.
Yet again there’s a photo of someone falling asleep using Autopilot on their Tesla. This viral image was snapped in Boston, with not only the driver dozing off but the passenger too! According to Arstechnica, “this has become a regular occurrence. Last month, a Los Angeles area television station featured video of a Tesla with a sleeping driver on Interstate 5. We reported on two other incidents in June and another one in the Netherlands in May”. Tesla’s response is “many of these videos appear to be dangerous pranks or hoaxes”. I would have thought they’d implement eye tracking by now (my Hyundai beeps if I look away from the road for too long!) to avoid shit like this.
