Google now allowing legacy G Suite users to stay around for free

All that effort you put in to moving your legacy G Suite account to something else may have not been necessary. A few months ago they said the free edition many users were using will start costing money as of June 27th, but today Google quietly started offering an option to mark your account for "personal use". If you do nothing the account will be shitcanned August 1st, but if you tell Google you want to keep using it, you can keep using it indefinitely (or until Google changes their mind). Google says if you continue that there's no support and "certain business functionality" may be removed in the future, but yeah, thanks Google?

Elon Musk's poo emoji to Twitter's CEO is news I guess

Elon Musk is already making noises about making a new offer for Twitter, saying that renegotiating the deal is "not out of the question". Meanwhile, Twitter's CEO went on a coherent rant (on Twitter of course) about Musk's dumb as shit plan to randomly sample 100 accounts and see which of their followers are fake, saying that you can't do this properly without Twitter's internal tools. Musk responded with a turd emoji. At that same conference, Musk said that Tesla will be "expanding FSD (Full Self-Driving) Beta to 1 million users by end of the year". 1 million cars driving themselves in an unsupervised beta, that's a safe and morally sound thing to do.

Black Mirror returns for season 6, trailer for season 3 of For All Mankind

Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones are bringing Black Mirror back for a 6th season on Netflix. A few years ago Charlie said, "I don't know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I'm not working away on one of those", but the pandemic is over now yeah, so dystopia is back on the menu! The real reason is some boring licencing deal between all the suits involved in the making of the show got sorted out so Charlie and Annabel are now Netflix's problem. Also in TV shows I like news, a trailer for the third season of For All Mankind on Apple TV is out. Season 3 starts June 10.

Something I Saw On The Internet

1.5 million apps to be erased from history when Google & Apple cleanse their stores

A report from Pixalate reckons Apple's and Google's plans to remove apps more than two years old would remove 869,000 apps from Google Play and around 650,000 from the App Store - a third of each store's current collection. I get why Apple and Google are cleaning house, but fuck me, what a blow to the collective history of the last decade of computer software. It's already hard enough keeping these apps going when they're on an app store due to the various versions of operating systems needed and the online nature of some of them, but now they're just getting wiped off the planet like they don't exist. It's a bit sad.
