WWDC 2022: the usual Apple software updates & an M2-powered MacBook Air

Another orbit of the sun, another Apple developer conference. iOS 16's headline feature is an "all new lock screen experience" that finally lets you customise it properly. iPad OS 16 introduces an "entirely new multitasking experience with Stage Manager and full external display support", that just begs Apple to merge the Mac and iPad already. macOS Ventura includes the same Stage Manager feature as iPad OS, along with Continuity Camera, which lets ya use an iPhone as a webcam. watchOS 9 has new watch faces and some fitness stuff. The MacBook Air got a redesign and a new M2 SoC, along with a higher price tag. Goes on sale in July. The M1 MacBook Air is still around if you can't stomach the new price.

Elon's lawyers want hard evidence of fake accounts & bots on Twitter

Elon Musk is officially trying not to buy Twitter now. His lawyers have told the SEC that unless Twitter gives him detailed info about the amount of bots/fake accounts on Twitter, the deal is off as Twitter has made a false representation. That's a huge load of bullshit for multiple reasons - he was tweeting about bots/fake accounts way before he purchased any Twitter shares so he can't say he wasn't aware of the problem, forfeited his right to due diligence (why?!) and it's questionable if Twitter can even give a random dude who isn't an employee of Twitter that level of data due to privacy laws. If you want sharp info about this shitshow, Matt Levine has you covered.

Twitter forced to reveal "basic subscriber information" on local ALP stooge

Avi Yemini is suing PRGuy17 for defamation - God bless if you don't know who these people are, it doesn't matter anyways - the reason I drag internet drama to this innocent newsletter is that the defamation case has lead to the Federal Court ordering Twitter to provide "basic subscriber information", which includes the email address and IP addresses used by PRGuy17, who up to this point has remained anonymous. Depending on how good PRGuy17 is with their opsec it could be a dead end for Avi, but if they did nothing to protect their identity, their ISP can than be ordered to reveal the customer linked to the IP addresses. A good time to re-read Samantha Floreani's article about why online anonymity is important, even when people you don't like benefit from it.
