Californian DMV doesn't like Tesla's "full self driving" claims

The Californian DMV has cracked the shits with Tesla's marketing of Autopilot and Full Self-Driving. They claim that Autopilot and FSD "require active driver supervision and do not make the vehicle autonomous" and that Tesla's disclaimers "contradicts the original untrue or misleading labels and claims, which is misleading, and does not cure the violation". They want the state to make Tesla "advertise to consumers and better educate Tesla drivers about the capabilities of its 'Autopilot' and 'Full Self-Driving' features, including cautionary warnings regarding the limitations of the features, and for other actions as appropriate given the violations". I expect to see Elon Musk call the Californian DMV pedos in the near future.

Australian car makers not keen on potential fuel & emissions regulations

It's unsurprising to most people, but the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (lobby group for car makers) isn't that keen on the government implementing fuel efficiency and vehicle emissions standards that match the EU's. Their PR campaign got leaked by the SMH today, exposing their plan to centre the upcoming legislative debate around "availability of technology, price points and what Australian consumers want to buy, not some sort of debate created around we need to do something by 2050". It's all bullshit as the manufacturers sell cars globally that meet way more strict regulations than what we have. They just want to keep Australia as a dumping ground for older cars and charge us a premium for them.

Twitter bug may have exposed identities of "anonymous" accounts

Twitter has informed users of a "vulnerability that allowed someone to enter a phone number or email address into the log-in flow in the attempt to learn if that information was tied to an existing Twitter account, and if so, which specific account". This is handy for figuring out who might be operating an anonymous Twitter account using information you already know. Twitter learned about it via "a press report that someone had potentially leveraged this and was offering to sell the information they had compiled". The bug has been fixed, but they recommend "not adding a publicly known phone number or email address to your Twitter account" if you want to keep your account's identity a secret and using 2FA via an app or hardware security key.

Something I Saw On The Internet

The Millennial Pause and being and old man on the internet

There's apparently a thing called "Millennial Pause", the brief second or two of silence in a video uploaded to the internet. This, according to the author of the article, is a symptom of the now clear Millennial generation's downfall as the internet's dominate culture - "I get confused whenever Instagram changes its layout. I use GIFs to make jokes in Slack. I have posted song lyrics on my Instagram Story. The range of mannerisms is so broad, the signs such a staple of my online behavior for the past 15 years, that it's not even worth trying to fight them". After reading this short article I remembered that scene from the Simpsons where Grandpa Simpson berates Homer and Barney that one day they will be out of touch just like he is and by using a Simpsons reference, confirming that I am now the one out of touch.
