The eSafety Commissioner has "issued a legal notice to Twitter seeking information about what the social media giant is doing to tackle online hate on the platform", after it received "more complaints about online hate on Twitter in the past 12 months than any other platform and has received an increasing number of reports of serious online abuse since Elon Musk's takeover". According to the commissioner, Julie Inman-Grant, "a third of all complaints about online hate reported to us are now happening on Twitter". I would love to see that legal notice and I bet Twitter will ignore it. There are fines of up to $700,000/day for not responding, but who will eSafety issue the fine to? Twitter Australia does not exist.
Apple has made the visionOS SDK available so developers can start making software for the Apple Vision Pro. In the coming weeks, Apple will "open developer labs in Cupertino, London, Munich, Shanghai, Singapore, and Tokyo to provide developers with hands-on experience to test their apps on Apple Vision Pro hardware and get support from Apple engineers" and "development teams will also be able to apply for developer kits to help them quickly build, iterate, and test right on Apple Vision Pro". Alongside the SDK, there's an update to Apple's Human Interface Guidelines with additional info for visionOS so developers make the most of its unique features. If any of you get a dev kit for the headset, please let me know so I can have an unofficial, off the record, shhhh nobody needs to know about this *wink wink*, hands-on.
The two biggest wankers in tech wanna get into a fight after Zuck and Facebook management teased Musk about how shit Twitter is going and Musk responded the only way he knows how - Twitter taunts that devolved into Musk asking Zuck if he wants to fight. It's not that far fetched either, as "Musk, 51, has the upper hand on Zuckerberg in terms of sheer physical size, and he has talked about being in 'real hard-core street fights' when he was growing up in South Africa. Meanwhile, Zuckerberg, 39, is an aspirational MMA fighter who is already winning Jiu-Jitsu tournaments. He also claims to have recently completed the grueling 'Murph Challenge' workout in just under 40 minutes". My money is on Zuck. He will rip Elon Musk apart and I desperately want to see it. Please, let them fight!!!
Self-hosting your own "cloud" stuff has never been more popular, or easier with Docker containers, but it's still kind of a pain in the arse. Umbrel makes it way easier. Install the image onto a microSD card, boot it up on a Raspberry Pi and off you go. If you've got a spare PC lying around, install Debian or Ubuntu, run "curl -L https://umbrel.sh | bash" and let it do its thing. Apps are then installed via an "app store". There's a lot of cryptocurrency/blockchain nonsense in there too, but you can ignore that crap and run the useful apps like Pi-Hole, Home Assistant, Nextcloud, PhotoPrism, Jellyfin and more. I chucked it on a Raspberry Pi for shits and giggles and it looks alright from my limited testing.
This is a poster (scanned in overlapping sections) outlining the standards for displaying Apple Computer's logo in the late 1980's. The rainbow-style Apple logo was dropped when Steve Jobs returned a decade later. (J. Peterson / Internet Archive)
